Navigating your way around Japan may seem a bit tricky at first but once you’ve got your bearings its pretty easy.

Our preferred method of Travel is by train and below you will find a step-by-step guide for how to get here. Not so confident with the train system it may be worth considering staying the night in Tokyo but there are other options such as the Nagano Snow Shuttle see here.The last bus from Iiyama station to Madarao leaves at 7:15pm

I highly recommend pre-booking your train tickets as they can get very busy non reserved tickets don’t always allow you to sit together, one option to pre-book is through Klook who also have a great guide on how to use the ticket machines see here

  • narita to Madarao

    Allow yourself 4 hours from the airport to our door, this will allow you time to navigate through your connections. Step by step instructions here

  • Haneda to Madarao

    Allow approx 2 hours 40 minutes. From Haneda you can board the Monorail to Hamamatsucho station and then transfer to the JR line to Tokyo station allow at least 30 minutes for this part.

  • Tokyo Station to Madarao

    Tokyo Station to our door allow just over 2 hours, the bullet train is 1 hour 40 minutes then the bus approx 30 mins see here

  • Bus From iiyama to madarao

    You will find the bus for Madarao directly to the right outside the front of iiyama station. You can purchase tickets at the ticket machine or pay on the bus. Bus Timetable here

Send your luggage ahead

If you would like to travel smarter and lighter then we totally recommend doing this. It’s super easy and very affordable and to be honest if you are travelling by train they actually prefer you not to board with too much luggage.

There are a few options but “Black Cat” Yamato transport is easiest. You will find them in every airport terminal close to the main exit just look for this symbol.
